The next logical step after setting a goal is to make a plan to achieve it. It all depends on your type of personality when you design an action plan. Are you someone who needs details, details and details? If being meticulous is your character, then start developing a plan that takes you from A-Z in details. But if you are someone who likes a helicopter view of everything, then it is alright to do the planning at the macro level. It is important that you must be comfortable with your plan, and not dread to even have a second look at it after you have spent hours developing it. What is the point of planning when you are not going to use it eventually?
For my little experiment, my plan is to go to the gym twice a week, eat 5-6 meals a day and drink plenty of water. I then break it down further and created worksheets to track my gym workout, body measurements, BMI, body fat % and daily meals intake.
"What gets measured, gets done." - Peter Drucker
It is important to measure the right things. Since my goal is to increase my body weight in a healthy manner, I need to track my body fat %. I do not want to end up having to set another goal - to go for liposuction. In order to know if my gym workout and diet is helping me to grow in the right proportion, that is why I track those figures. If the results indicate that I am not improving in the correct direction, then I will need to review my workouts and/or diet. Since this is an experiment, it is important that I measure the inputs (food and workout) and outputs (body measurements, body fat%).
I have done my first gym workout last week and have been tracking my meals intake daily. How am I feeling so far? Great. Not because I am already seeing results. That is impossible since it is only a few days. But I am feeling great because I have started taking massive action towards my goal. I visited websites that provide advice on fitness workout, body building and dieting. I watched videos to learn the proper techniques, so that I can avoid injuries when performing my workout. One of the keys towards achieving your goal, is to start taking immediate and massive action. And I am already feeling the positive effects this has on me. I cannot wait to wake up at 6am tomorrow to head to the gym again.
